This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Intermediate 3 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese. After completing this term, students will be prepared to advance to Advanced 1.

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Advanced 4 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese.

Summer Beginner

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 with little or no prior experience with Mandarin Chinese. Over the course of this game-based immersion program, students will learn to:

  • Greet and interact with teachers and peers in an appropriate manner
  • Identify numbers, colors, animals, foods and family members
  • Follow simple narratives in the form of short picture books
  • Request items in an appropriate manner
  • Follow a range of classroom instructions, such as “please sit,” “please stand,” “please listen,” “please say it with me,” and more

  • Formulate more complex sentences
  • Respond to more complex instructions

Beginner 3

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Beginner 2 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese. After completing this term, students will be prepared to advance to Beginner 4. In Beginner 3, students will learn to:

  • Begin forming a self-introduction, including name and age
  • Express likes, dislikes and preferences
  • Recognize a range of activities in Chinese, such as eating, sleeping, waking up, brushing one’s teeth, drawing, playing, reading, and more
  • Recognize a small set of Chinese characters, including numbers 1-10

Beginner 4

Not offered this term

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Beginner 3 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese. After completing this term, students will be prepared to advance to Intermediate 1. In Beginner 4, students will learn to:

  • Perform a short self-introduction, including name, age, likes and family members
  • Recognize basic Chinese prepositions of place (in front of, behind, on top of, underneath, to the side of, inside, etc.)
  • Identify different types of weather and emotional states

Intermediate 1

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Beginner 4 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese. After completing this term, students will be prepared to advance to Intermediate 2. In Intermediate 1, students will learn to:

  • Perform a detailed self-introduction
  • Converse in short exchanges about topics such as family, preferences, etc.

Intermediate 2

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Intermediate 1 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese. After completing this term, students will be prepared to advance to Intermediate 3. In Intermediate 2, students will learn to:

  • Ask and answer basic questions such as: What is your name? How old are you? How many people are in your family? What do you like to do? How is the weather? etc.

Intermediate 3 (Full)

This course is for toddlers and children ages 2-5 who have completed Intermediate 2 or have reached an equivalent proficiency level in Mandarin Chinese. After completing this term, students will be prepared to advance to Intermediate 4.
